Ben Venue School History

Ben Venue Public School is situated in the city of Armidale, in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Ben Venue has a proud history and is one of the oldest schools in Armidale.

The original school, which cost £275, consisted of a large weatherboard room, 35 feet by 19 feet, with a verandah along the side. Another classroom was added in 1914.

In 1930, after much consideration, it was decided to build another school and so on 15th October, 1930 the foundation stone was laid for the new Ben Venue School on the eastern side of Rockvale Road.

Additions were made over the years and in 1964-65 the first buildings on the western side of Rockvale Road were used for classes. During recent years major improvements have been made to the school with new and refurbished classrooms, a multi-purpose hall and modern library.

The school is now on one site, on the eastern side of Rockvale Road.

In 2010 a major building program was funded ($4.2m) through the Building Education Revolution (B.E.R.). This program provided the school with a double classroom, a special programs room, an Outdoor Learning Area and a major storage facility. The program also funded a complete refurbishment of the K-2 toilet facilities.
